Green tea

Green tea is tea that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing. Green tea is popular in China and Japan, and recently has become more popular in the West, which traditionally drank only black tea.

The practice of drinking green tea was brought to Japan by monks returning from their studies at the great Zen monasteries of 12th century China. For them, tea functioned as an aid to meditation and as a health aid. As the years went by, the reasons for drinking tea changed, but it never went out of fashion. Recent studies have reviewed the historical uses of green tea and have indentified many of the active constituents, such as polyphenols and bioflavonoids. Caffeine-free.

FEDERAL HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
FDA regulates dietary supplements under a different set of regulations than those covering "conventional" foods and drug products (prescription and Over-the-Counter). Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), the dietary supplement manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed. FDA is responsible for taking action against any unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. Generally, manufacturers do not need to register with FDA nor get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements. Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading.
